Meghalaya: NH-6 to become four-lane highway, says Deputy CM

Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced that the stretch from Lad Umroi to Malidor along National Highway 6 will be upgraded to a four-lane highway.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is already conducting surveys and land acquisition is underway.

Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport has taken note of the poor condition of the highway from Lumshnong to Umkiang and will address maintenance and repairs.

NHAI contractors are currently responsible for this section.

For the landslide-prone Sonapur tunnel, the Ministry has assured an inspection by experts.

While no immediate solutions exist, these experts will work on protecting the tunnel until the four-lane highway survey is complete.
