Shillong: Former Chief Minister and Meghalaya Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Sangma has forecast a significant shift in India's political landscape, where regional parties will surpass national parties in influence and representation.

Sangma stated that this development will benefit both the state and the nation, as it will curb the authoritarian tendencies of national parties.

Sangma stated that the recent general elections saw the BJP's ambitions of securing 400 seats in the Lok Sabha thwarted by regional parties, which successfully defended their strongholds.

This, in turn, limited the Congress party's seat count to less than three digits.

Sangma observed that the country's political dynamics are undergoing a transformation, with regional parties poised to occupy more than 200 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha in the near future.

This would leave the remaining seats to be contested between the BJP and Congress, signaling a decline in their dominance.
