Guwahati: Former Chief Minister and Meghalaya TMC Leader, Mukul Sangma, has refuted "rumours" of his defection to the BJP following the Lok Sabha elections, asserting that the saffron party is aligned with an administration that neglects the interests of the people.

Mukul questioned the notion of him switching sides to the BJP, labelling it as part of a government that is not favourable to the populace.

He criticized the BJP's involvement in the NPP-led MDA Government, highlighting their focus solely on retaining power rather than addressing governance issues.

The former CM further expressed his firm stance against joining the MDA Government, criticizing its disregard for citizens' concerns and the state's welfare.

He also accused the government of providing political backing to activities contrary to the state and national interests.

Speculations arose regarding Mukul's potential move to the BJP following the recent defection of senior Trinamool Congress leader Winnerson D Momin to the saffron party on March 8.

It may be mentioned that there had been several reports that claim that the former Chief Minister might choose to switch sides.

However, Sangma had denied the claims each time.
