Meghalaya: Minister says there are shortcomings in tackling substance abuse issue

Guwahati: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh claimed that there were some deficiencies in addressing the problem of substance abuse in Meghalaya stating that there was a need for enhanced enforcement of the rule of law.

He asserted that the ongoing recruitment process in the Police Department will bolster efforts, particularly through the Anti-Narcotic Task Force.

Responding to the visible drug peddling on city streets, Lyngdoh said that there is a necessity for remedial actions, including public involvement in anti-drug operations.

He mentioned initiatives such as a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, which involved leaders from faith organizations and educational institutions.

Lyngdoh also disclosed progress in engaging with the people, notably citing the cooperation of Mawlai Town Dorbar, which offered land for constructing rehabilitation facilities and counselling centres.
