Meghalaya: Man kills uncle over witchcraft allegations

Guwahati: A man was allegedly murdered by his own nephew over allegations of witchcraft in West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.

The incident took place in Dolbaoara village.

The deceased was identified as Jengran R Marak.

He lost his life, allegedly at the hands of his nephew, Ponibirth R Marak.

Ponibirth, 23, brutally assaulted his uncle with a steel water pipe, accusing him of practising witchcraft, which he believed was causing his father's illness.

The attack occurred at the victim's residence, where Ponibirth confronted and killed Jengran on the spot.

The incident was reported to the police by the headman of Rohonpara and another villager at 7:10 pm.

Villagers apprehended Ponibirth after he fled the scene, and police later seized the murder weapon and took him into custody for medical examination.

The victim's body was recovered behind his house, and an inquest was postponed due to fading light.

The body was transferred to Tura Civil Hospital for further examination.

Ponibirth has been arrested in connection with the murder.
