Meghalaya LS polls: Congress wins from Tura and VPP from Shillong

Guwahati: In Meghalaya, NDA could not get a single seat out of the two Lok Sabha constituency seats results that were announced on Tuesday.

In the Shillong (ST) seat, Dr. Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon from Voice of the People Party (VPP) won by 3,71,910 votes over Vincent H. Pala of the Indian National Congress.

In the Tura Lok Sabha Constituency seat, Saleng A Sangma of Congress defeated Agatha K Sangma of NPP by 1,55,241 votes.

NPP was the ally of BJP’s NDA alliance.  

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there were six candidates contesting from the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency.

The candidates contesting in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from this seat are Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, National People’s Party (NPP); Peter Shallam, Independent (IND); Vincent H Pala, Indian National Congress (INC); Dr Ricky Andrew J Syngkon, Voice of the People Party (VPP); Robertjune Kharjahrin, United Democratic Party (UDP) and Prof Lakhon Kma, Independent (IND).

In the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, there were a total of 14,00,411 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, of which 6,83,766 were male, 7,16,643 were female and two of the third gender.
