Meghalaya: Liquor bottles to have QR codes to curb revenue leakage
Guwahati: In a bid to plug revenue leakage, the Meghalaya government has approved a proposal to implement QR code technology on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles sold in the state.
This move is expected to help track the journey of each bottle, identifying any discrepancies in the system and reducing revenue leakage by 5-10 per cent.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma explained that the QR code-based tracking system will enable authorities to monitor the entire supply chain, from production to retail.

This solution aims to curb illicit trade and ensure that liquor is sold only through authorized channels.
In another significant development, the cabinet has approved a composite bar license for hotels, streamlining the licensing process. Previously, hotels with multiple bars required separate licenses for each.

Under the new system, hotels will receive a single composite license, simplifying the application process.
However, the license fee for composite licenses will be higher than for individual licenses.
