Guwahati: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has presented a comprehensive 20-point reformative checklist to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, aiming to overhaul the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).

The proposals, developed in consultation with various stakeholders, including retired civil servants and academicians, seek to address concerns of bias, corruption, nepotism, and bribery in the recruitment process.

The KSU highlights the need for amendments to the MPSC's 1972 Regulations, which have remained unchanged for 50 years, and the lack of uniform recruitment and examination rules.

The suggested reforms include appointing qualified, non-partisan chairmen and members.

It also included annual asset declarations by office-bearers and establishing a vigilance and anti-corruption directorate along with implementing combined competitive examinations for similar posts among others.

The KSU will submit the memorandum to leaders of various political parties ahead of the autumn session of the Assembly, urging them to support the reforms and ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.
