Guwahati: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is taking steps to streamline clan administration and regulate the issuance of Khasi tribe certificates in Meghalaya.

During a meeting with clan representatives, the council announced the creation of an official list of recognized clans within its jurisdiction.

KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member PN Syiem explained that obtaining a Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate, which requires a Khasi tribe certificate, will depend on inclusion in this upcoming list.

The council aims to ensure proper verification and eliminate confusion surrounding clan legitimacy, he said.

Representatives from various clans were invited to submit details for inclusion in the list. The council will also conduct research to identify potentially forgotten or inactive clans.
