Meghalaya: KHADC passes bill for delimitation of constituency boundaries

Shillong: The Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in Meghalaya has unanimously approved an amendment bill to reconfigure and delimitation of constituency boundaries during a special session.

The bill, titled Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (Constitution of District Council) (Amendment) Rules 2024, aims to rationalize voter distribution across constituencies.

Deputy Chief Executive Member Pynshngain N Syiem stated that while the delimitation committee made efforts to balance voter numbers, some areas like Mawlai saw minimal changes due to local objections.

The amendment has resulted in several constituency boundary changes, including Mawpat village being added to the Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.

Along with this Cleve Colony, Risa Colony, and Tripura Castle will be added to Laitumkhrah-Malki.

Umsawli, Lyngkein, and Mawser villages will added to Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah while Lumdorbar, Lumsohphoh, Mynsain, and Kynjatphutbol will be added to Laban-Mawprem.

Further Lumshngain will be added to Nongthymmai while Mawkasiang, Mawdiangdiang, Mawlong, Seisiej, Lumkseh, and Lumdiengsai villages being added to Sohryngkham and Nongrim Hills is being added to Nongthymmai constituency.
