Shillong: The opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in Meghalaya led by the United Democratic Party (UDP) said that it expects the delimitation committee's report to be finalized by the council's next session.

This committee is responsible for redrawing constituency boundaries to ensure a balanced distribution of voters across the KHADC's 29 constituencies.

"During the previous session, the delimitation committee requested more time to complete their work," stated Titosstarwell Chyne, Leader of the Opposition in the KHADC.

He added, "We are hopeful that they can finalize the report by the upcoming session."

However, Chyne acknowledged that he is not currently informed about the committee's progress. When questioned about the implications of further delays, Chyne pointed out a constitutional provision that allows for a six-month extension of the council's term.

"Voters are eager for the next MDCs (Member of District Council) election, especially after the recent parliamentary elections," Chyne remarked. "For now, we should be patient and wait for the next round of elections."
