Tura: The Meghalaya High Court has quashed the termination of Senora Johny Arengh, a former employee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

The court ordered the Council to reinstate Arengh with all back pay and benefits.

Arengh, who was also the former president of the Non Gazetted Employees’ Association, had been fired in August 2021 after speaking out against the Council's alleged failure to pay employee salaries.

The termination was based on a show cause notice accusing him of making defamatory statements against the administration.

However, the High Court ruled that the Council had violated procedural guidelines and the principles of natural justice in the termination process.

The court found that the Council had not followed the prescribed disciplinary procedures outlined in the Meghalaya Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 2011.
