Meghalaya government to push Centre for ILP implementation
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government is set to urge the central government for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
This was stated Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong.
Interacting with the media, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong stated, “Once everything is settled, the chief minister and I will visit Delhi again. We will meet with leaders, including the Prime Minister and home minister, to remind them of pending issues like the ILP, language inclusion, and other important matters for the state of Meghalaya.”
Tynsong, who also serves as the state president of the National People’s Party (NPP), criticized Tura Congress MP Saleng A Sangma for claiming that former MP Agatha K Sangma had never raised the ILP demand in Parliament.

“Saleng has only recently been elected, and I’m not sure where he got his information. However, our party has always instructed both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs to address these issues with the government of India, whether inside Parliament or at the governmental level,” the Meghalaya deputy chief minister said.
ILP implementation and language inclusion have been long-standing demands in Meghalaya.
