Meghalaya government aims to make Shillong Engineering College operational soon

SHILLONG: Meghalaya education minister Rakkam A Sangma announced that the state government is actively working to make Shillong Engineering College, the first of its kind in the state, operational as soon as possible.

Briefing the media following an inspection of the facility, Sangma confirmed that the construction of the college building is complete.

However, the institution is not yet functional due to specific observations made by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

"The AICTE has noted the need for separate administrative buildings. We are addressing this by constructing a separate administrative building and hope to make the engineering college operational at the earliest," Sangma stated.

The Meghalaya education minister also revealed that the state government aims to commence a few courses at Shillong Engineering College by the next academic session.

The college will initially offer programs in five departments: civil engineering, mining, mechanical, electrical, and computer sciences.

"This will be the first engineering college in the state. We are committed to recruiting the necessary faculty and staff promptly to ensure the college becomes operational as soon as possible, in compliance with AICTE requirements," Sangma added.
