Shillong: The Meghalaya government has announced a 25% salary increase for over 1200 non-teaching staff members of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), effective April 01 this year.

The announcement was made via a letter from the special officer in charge of the Meghalaya education department to the state project director of Samagra Shiksha (SEMAM) and the director of school education and literacy on July 26.

The letter confirmed the Meghalaya government’s approval for the salary enhancement for office staff at the state, district, and block levels, including MIS, DEO, and accountant roles.

The letter stated: “In inviting a reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to convey government’s approval for a 25% enhancement of the salary of the office staff of Samagra Shiksha (Non-Academic) at the state, district, and block MIS, DEO, and accountant with effect from the financial year 2024-2025 (i.e. April 1, 2024). This approval is issued in pursuance of Finance (EA) Department’s letter dated July 18, 2024. This has the approval of the ‘Competent Authority.’”

This decision comes amid an indefinite sit-in demonstration by the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staffs Association (AMSSANTSA).

The association has been demanding a salary hike.
