Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Organic Spice Industrial Unit (Prime-Hub) at Bhoirymbong, Ri-Bhoi district.

The unit, managed by Eastern Ri-Bhoi Organic Farmer Producer Company Ltd., aims to enhance organic spice processing and value addition, benefiting over 4,500 farmers.

With a total investment of Rs 15 crores, including Rs 12 crores in government incentives and a bank loan of Rs 2-3 crores, the multi-purpose facility will process various spices like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. The unit is expected to become the largest of its kind in the Northeastern region.

The Chief Minister highlighted the strategic importance of Ri-Bhoi as a transit point connecting the Northeast region and the country. The CEO of Ri Bhoi Organic Farmer Producers Company Ltd., Revistar Kharumnuid, emphasized the company's goal of empowering local farmers and promoting Meghalaya's rich organic traditions.

The new facility will increase production, improve product quality and quantity, and strengthen the company's global market presence.

The company has tied up with 10 other FPOs from different districts, targeting an annual input of 4700 metric tonnes and revenue of Rs 18.71 crore, Rs 24.94 crore, and Rs 27.68 crore over the next three years.
