Meghalaya: Five arrested in West Garo Hills for assault of woman

Guwahati: At least Five people were arrested by police in South Garo Hills, Meghalaya in connection with the brutal assault of a woman.

The incident, which was filmed and went viral online, took place in Lower Teksragre village, Dadenggre, West Garo Hills.

The video showed a group of men viciously attacking the woman with bamboo sticks.

Upon discovering the video, police from Damal Asim Police Station launched an investigation and apprehended two suspects.

Three more individuals who attempted to flee were later apprehended in the evening.

Santa Mary Shylla, chairperson of the Assembly Committee on women empowerment, demanded a report from the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police in connection with the incident.

Shylla has also directed legal action against all those involved. Additionally, a delegation from the committee plans to visit West Garo Hills on July 1st to meet the victim.
