Meghalaya: Election official attacked by unidentified men in Tura

Shillong: A flying squad team deployed to monitor elections in Meghalaya's Tura Lok Sabha seat was allegedly attacked by unidentified men on Monday night.

The incident, the first act of violence during the campaign period, left the flying squad magistrate, Adinson Ch Momin, injured.

Momin and his team, which included a cameraman and a police constable, were in Tikrikilla to ensure adherence to election rules following a Trinamool Congress (TMC) rally for candidate Zenith Sangma.

The attack occurred after the rally had concluded and the crowd had dispersed, sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 pm.

According to Momin, five men emerged from the darkness and assaulted them without provocation.

He reported that the attackers were intoxicated and fled the scene when the police constable intervened.

Momin sustained facial injuries in the attack.

Momin, in his police report at Tikrikilla station, clarified that the incident wasn't a group clash or politically motivated.

Police are currently investigating the case.
