Guwahati: In a unique move to maintain its natural beauty and cleanliness, the village of Khlieh A Sem in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya has announced a ban on tourist entry to its popular spots on Sundays.

The decision, taken by the village council, aims to prevent plastic waste pollution and ensure the area remains pristine.

Khlieh A Sem, known for its stunning waterfalls, has become a sought-after tourist destination since 2022.

However, the village council has prioritized cleanliness and sustainability over tourism. On Sundays, villagers attend church services, leaving no one to monitor and manage waste disposal.

The village has implemented measures to maintain local infrastructure, including road and footpath maintenance, and has petitioned the state government for assistance in developing tourism infrastructure.

Tourists are required to adhere to regulations, including using designated roads and respecting posted guidelines.

The village council has emphasized its commitment to preserving the environment and cleanliness, with notice boards displaying do's and don'ts for visitors to follow.
