Meghalaya deputy CM urges HNLC to reengage in peace dialogue

SHILLONG: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong has urged the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to reengage in dialogue, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to acting within legal boundaries.

Following the HNLC’s claim of responsibility for the March 09 IED bomb blast and their ultimatum to relocate families from Harijan Colony in Shillong, Prestone Tynsong briefed the media, highlighting the Meghalaya government’s prolonged consideration of the relocation issue.

“We are earnestly working towards a final resolution,” the Meghalaya deputy chief minister affirmed, refraining from direct comment on the HNLC’s statement.

Urging the outfit to pursue peace, Tynsong emphasized the Meghalaya government’s preparedness to take legal action against unlawful activities.

“We will not tolerate illegal activity in Meghalaya,” he asserted.

Amidst the arrest of HNLC members and the dismantling of a sleeper cell, Tynsong reiterated the Meghalaya government’s resolve to prevent further incidents, assuring citizens of their safety.

“The police will not rest until perpetrators are brought to justice,” the Meghalaya deputy chief minister affirmed.
