Meghalaya: Demand for action on NH-62 construction delay, Baghmara Civil Hospital repair grows in SGH

Guwahati: Several organisations along with residents of Baghmara in South Garo Hills, Meghalaya submitted an ultimatum to the the deputy commissioner demanding immediate action on the delay in the construction of NH-62 (217) road and the pending repair works at the Baghmara Civil Hospital.

The groups including GSU, FKJGP, ADE, AHAM, AYWO, NGCO, APA and others highlighted the hardships faced by the people due to the slow progress of the road construction and the halted repair works at the Civil Hospital.

They demanded immediate major repairs to the NH-62 and resumption and completion of the repairs at the Civil Hospital with installation of fans, proper water supply, functional toilets and adequate facilities for patients. The groups warned that if their demands are not met within a week, they would initiate a strong agitation. The same groups also submitted a complaint to Education Minister Rakkam a Sangma against K K Paul, the Principal of the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Baghmara and the District Inspector (DI), Baghmara.

They accused Paul of being absent from duty, leading to shortage of teachers and negligence of DI Office.

The groups demanded the immediate removal of Paul and the DI and appointment of qualified persons in their place.

They also demanded the release of pending salaries of teachers, prompt repair of the DI Office, installation of new computers and speedy construction of the pending government school building.
