Shillong: Five bridges along National Highway 6 in East Jaiñtia Hills, Meghalaya are showing signs of significant damage, putting commuters at risk.

The bridges, located in Tongseng, Sonapyrdi, Pyrtakuna, Umkiang, and Rattacherra villages, have iron rods protruding from certain sections, prompting urgent repair work.

The District Disaster Management Authority has instructed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to take immediate restorative measures to ensure public safety.

The bridges' critical importance for transportation along NH-6, a vital lifeline connecting Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura, underscores the need for swift action.

Commuters are advised to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations when using the bridges to avoid accidents.
