SHILLONG: Sleuths of the customs department apprehended two individuals and confiscated Methamphetamine (WY) tablets worth Rs 2.23 crore in Meghalaya.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the customs, Northeast Region, Shillong, swiftly responded to the Silchar-Jiribam Road on April 29.

After conducting surveillance for several hours, they successfully intercepted two suspects in the Kashipur area.

Upon searching the suspects, the officers discovered and seized 2.270 kilograms of Methamphetamine (WY) tablets, with an estimated value of Rs 2.23 crores.

The two individuals were arrested under pertinent sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and have been remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

A statement from the customs department emphasized their unwavering commitment to combatting various forms of cross-border crime, including the smuggling of gold, cigarettes, drugs, narcotics, wildlife articles, fake Indian currency notes, as well as addressing import-export frauds and trade-based money laundering.
