Guwahati: The cow protection group, led by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, said it will move to the Supreme Court after being denied permission to land in Meghalaya.

The group claimed that it had postponed its visit to Meghalaya after being denied landing permission at Umroi Airport.

The group planned to hold a rally in Shillong advocating for cow protection and a cow-slaughter-free India.

After being barred from boarding a flight to Umroi at Agartala Airport, they flew to Guwahati instead.

Shankaracharya hoisted the Gau Pratishtha flag over Meghalaya airspace, reports claimed.

The group following this claimed that it would the Supreme Court against the Meghalaya government and Airports Authority of India's decision.

They claimed that the incident was an unauthorized denial of permission.

The rally named Gau Dhwaj Yatra, scheduled for October 2 in Shillong was opposed even by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya.

The BJP has called to publicly denounce the event.

The Hindu group has sought to declare the cow as the “nation’s mother” and end cow slaughter, but the plan has sparked concerns among locals.

Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Alexander Laloo Hek urged the administration to deny permission for the event, citing potential unrest.

“These groups will create unnecessary misunderstanding between the sentiments of the locals,” Hek said.
