Shillong: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has officially named Jingjang M Marak as its candidate for the upcoming Gambegre Assembly by-election in Meghalaya, scheduled to take place on November 13.

This decision was made after State Congress president Vincent H. Pala met with party leaders, including Kharge, in New Delhi to discuss the nomination.

The Gambegre seat became vacant when Saleng A. Sangma, the sitting Congress MLA, resigned on June 10 to assume his role as Lok Sabha MP from the Tura parliamentary seat.

Other parties have also announced their candidates for the by-election.

The National People's Party (NPP) has chosen Mehtab Chandee Sangma, wife of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, while the Trinamool Congress has nominated Sadhiarani M Sangma, wife of former minister Zenith Sangma and a member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to announce its candidate after a meeting with the central party leadership on October 21, according to BJP leader and cabinet minister Alexander L. Hek.
