Guwahati: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya thwarted a cattle smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border and apprehended a Bangladeshi national, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, BSF troops from the 172 Bn laid an ambush in the Rattachera area of East Jaintia Hills.

The team apprehended a Bangladeshi national attempting to smuggle three buffaloes across the border.

It may be mentioned that cattle smuggling is a major issue in the border areas as most of these are stolen cattle.

A source said that since cattle require a lot of patience to rear and bring up to a state for selling, smugglers usually try to smuggle stolen cattle.

Investigation regarding the seized cattle in Tuesday's operation has been initiated.
