SHILLONG: Meghalaya BJP vice president Bernard Marak has urged Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure protection for Christians in the state.

Meghalaya BJP vice president Bernard Marak penned a letter to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma requesting protection for Christians following social media posts alleging verbal discrimination, attacks, provocations, allegations, intimidations, ultimatums, and unlawful trespassing on Christians by Assam Hindutva leader Satya Ranjan Borah.

Marak highlighted Borah's consistent targeting of missionary institutions and the escalating communal tensions affecting these establishments pivotal to educational and social progress.

Expressing concern for the vulnerable and fearful Christian community in Assam, Marak appealed for increased security measures for Christian missionary institutions and urged authorities to issue prohibitory orders against communal provocations.

Additionally, the Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) condemned the harassment, distortion, and threats of violence towards educational institutions run by inclusive Christian bodies and their dedicated personnel.

The forum expressed alarm at the surge of hatred-driven groups targeting learning institutions and those dedicated to youth welfare.

Addressing legislative measures against 'magical' healing in Assam, the KJCLF underscored concerns about encroachments on religious freedom and spirituality.

They appealed to the cultured Assamese populace and enlightened communities to confront and oppose the perpetrators of prejudice and hatred, advocating for the protection of educational institutions and teachers committed to shaping the future generation.

The KJCLF urged parents and society members to safeguard learning institutions and educators, while encouraging citizens to uphold the sanctity of their faiths and beliefs against forces that threaten cultural harmony and peace.
