Meghalaya: Ancient tribal hall unearthed in Jaintia Hills
Shillong: Scientists from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP) have discovered an ancient tribal conference hall in the sacred groves of Meghalaya, preserved by the Jaintia tribes.
The sacred groves boast exceptional biodiversity, with over 600 documented plant species.

These forests have thrived due to the Jaintia tribes' deep respect for the environment, manifested in religious beliefs and local taboos.
The strict protection measures include removing shoes and leather items before entering and prohibiting activities like plucking plants, using metal tools, or taking photographs.
