Meghalaya aims for full electrification by 2028

Shillong: Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal recently announced a departmental pledge to bring electricity to every village by 2028.

Earlier Congress legislator Charles Marngar stated that there was inconsistent power supply and the electrification status of several villages in his constituency.

Minister Mondal said that while a thorough survey had been conducted, a few outlying villages hadn't yet been included due to new settlements and expansions.

He reassured the public that these situations are being actively addressed, emphasizing the additional challenges presented by new households requiring power access after their villages' initial electrification.

Marngar specifically raised issues with villages like Mawhati, Sonidan, Umtrai, and Umsiang, where infrastructure installed under the DDUGJY-I program in 2018-19 has resulted in power problems.

Mondal confirmed these faulty connections and pledged that the government would resolve them swiftly.

This initiative demonstrates Meghalaya's dedication to achieving universal electrification.

By 2028, the state aims to provide dependable electricity access to all villages, significantly improving infrastructure and overall quality of life for its residents.
