Shillong: The Meghalaya government is considering a proposal to grant age relaxation to Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, enabling new recruitment processes.

Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the government is working on the proposal, aiming to support SSA teachers through initiatives like age relaxation.

This development comes as the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers' Association and the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers' Association have demanded a 100 per cent increase in salary putting a deadline of September 30.

The association has also threatened to launch in indefinite statewide protest demonstration if their demands are not met.

While Sangma refrained from commenting on the salary demands, he assured that discussions are underway, reports stated.

The proposed age relaxation aims to aid SSA teachers, but a final decision remains pending.

The SSA's mission is to provide quality basic education for children aged 6-14.

In Meghalaya, SSA teachers have previously demanded salary structure implementation and remuneration enhancement.
