Grouting and drilling works are 60 per cent complete and initial reports show a reduction in water seepage through the dam.

Additionally, based on technical assessments by IIT Guwahati, bridge bearings have been refurbished.

"After refurbishment, the bridge has been restored to its original position," the statement said.

A detailed report and estimate will be prepared, and further actions will be taken based on the findings.

The Umiam dam and bridge were built between 1958 and 1965.

Constant traffic over the years has caused fatigue and deterioration in the bridge structure.
