Union Minister Ajay Tamta meets Manipur Governor to review NHIDCL road projects
Imphal: Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Ajay Tamta, and Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, discussed strengthening road connectivity across the state, including hilly and interior regions, at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.
According to a communiqué issued by the Raj Bhavan, the meeting took place when the visiting Union Minister called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, on Wednesday evening.
They discussed various ongoing road development projects being implemented by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and their role in improving access, facilitating trade, and boosting economic growth.
Both emphasized the need for the timely completion of these projects to enhance connectivity and promote balanced development across Manipur.
The Minister also briefed the Governor about his inspection visits to Pherzawl and Churachandpur districts over the past two days.
Notably, the meeting came at a time when normal life in Kakching district came to a standstill for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, following an indefinite bandh called by various civil society organizations.
Several groups in Kakching district are protesting against the authorities' failure to repair the damaged stretch of NH-137(A) passing through the district.
During the bandh, large numbers of people took to the streets and blocked major roads, including Kakching Keithel and Kakching Lamkhai, disrupting vehicular movement.
Educational institutions, including schools and colleges, also remained closed for the day.
However, emergency services, including media, medical, fire, and water supply services, as well as religious ceremonies, were exempted from the bandh.
