Uddhav Thackeray slams PM Modi for Manipur violence, Jammu terror attacks
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, on Wednesday (June 12), slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing violence in Manipur and terror attacks in Jammu.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur in light of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent comments on the ongoing conflict in the Northeast state.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had expressed concern on June 10 about the unabated violence in Manipur, stating that the situation must be resolved as a priority.
“Will Prime Minister Modi visit Manipur after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks?” Thackeray questioned.
Briefing the media, the former Maharashtra chief minister also questioned the effectiveness of the abrogation of Article 370, which previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
“Lives are being lost. Who is responsible for the terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir?” Thackeray asked, highlighting concerns over the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir post abrogation of Article 370.
Thackeray also commented on the future of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, saying, “I am concerned about the future of the country and not about the future of the NDA government.”
Thackeray stated that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot tackle terror attacks, he does not deserve to hold the position.
“Whose responsibility is it? Will the PM and home minister not visit J&K? It is PM Modi’s responsibility. If he can’t handle these things, then has no right to be the PM”
It may be mentioned here that on June 09, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath-taking, terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra near Teryath village in the Poni area of Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack resulted in ten fatalities and at least 41 injuries.
On June 11 night, terrorists launched an assault on a joint check-post of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road in Doda district, sparking a fierce gunfight.
The Kashmir Tigers, a group linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the attack.
During the ensuing search operation, two terrorists were killed, and efforts were ongoing to flush out another terrorist believed to have infiltrated from across the border.
Another terror attack was also reported in Kathua.
Furthermore, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray reassured that there were no differences within the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar.
“There is no difference,” Thackeray asserted.
