Two die by suicide in separate incidents in Manipur valley

Imphal: Two individuals, a young man and an elderly man, allegedly died by suicide in separate incidents across the southern parts of Manipur valley over the past 36 hours, according to officials.

In the first incident, a 19-year-old man allegedly hanged himself from a tree inside the Basic Ground under the jurisdiction of Kakching Police Station on Monday.

Police identified the deceased as Anish Sheikh, a resident of Khelakhong Mamang Leikai in Kakching district and the son of Md Rahaman.

He was found hanging with a Khudei, a traditional Meitei loincloth, tied around his neck. Family members said Anish left home around 4 p.m. on Sunday and did not return.

Locals discovered his body at noon on Monday at the Basic Ground near the police station.

In the second incident, police found Hemam Kumar (61), a resident of Okshongbung Mandap Maning under Moirang Police Station, hanging from a tree in the Okshongbung Meikhambi Maril paddy field in Bishnupur district.

Police have registered two cases of unnatural death and sent both bodies to RIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Investigators have not recovered any suicide notes from either case. However, police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
