Imphal: A joint team of central and state forces seized approximately 1,20,000 World is Yours (WY) tablets, a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine, commonly sold as red or pink pills known as Yaba.

These tablets originated in Myanmar and entered Manipur’s black market.

According to the Manipur Police morning bulletin on Tuesday, the Security Forces conducted an operation along the Sita-Tengnoupal Road in Tengnoupal district, during which they recovered 600 packets containing around 1,20,000 WY tablets, weighing 13 kilograms.

The team found the contraband on a Kenbo bike, a Myanmar-origin two-wheeler, which an unknown rider had abandoned upon spotting the Security Forces on duty along the road on Monday.

The report stated that the seized WY tablets, valued at approximately Rs 30 crore in the international market, along with the impounded vehicle, are currently in the custody of the relevant police station. Authorities are investigating further to identify and arrest the absconding rider.

The smuggling of Yaba (WY) tablets has surged since 2019 across the porous Indo-Myanmar border in southern Manipur.

The spike followed intensified crackdowns by central forces, including the Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF).

These stimulant tablets quickly gained popularity due to the limited availability of such drugs in India’s northeastern states, particularly in Manipur.
