Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced in the state assembly on Wednesday that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the timeline for implementing relief measures in the state, which has been affected by ethnic violence since May 3, 2023.

The RBI has granted an extension until September 20, 2024, for the moratorium on relief measures, which was previously set to expire on March 24, 2024.

The Chief Minister, who also holds the finance portfolio, informed the assembly that 30% of loan beneficiaries have applied for the relief measures.

The extension comes after the state government requested the Ministry of Finance to intervene, and a meeting with the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) will be held to discuss further extensions.

Additionally, the central government has released ?225.25 crore for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and a Cabinet Sub-Committee has been formed to assess their needs.

The ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities has resulted in 226 deaths, 1,500 injuries, and 60,000 displacements. The Chief Minister urged IDPs to report any grievances or problems to his office.
