Pregnant woman dies by suicide in Manipur’s Bishnupur district

Imphal: A seven-month pregnant woman died by suicide in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Sunday night, officials said on Monday.

Her family alleged that she had been mentally and physically tortured by her husband, who was reportedly addicted to intoxicating substances.

Police confirmed that the 22-year-old deceased, a housewife from Kumbi Chatapur Maning Leikai under the Kumbi Police Station, allegedly hanged herself with a nylon rope inside her room.

Officers who arrived at the scene found that the woman had already died.

No suicide note was recovered, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death.

Following the tragic incident, locals allegedly assaulted the victim’s husband, Moirangthem Naocha (35), accusing him of habitual substance abuse and prolonged domestic violence.

The injured husband was taken to the general ward of RIMS Hospital, Imphal, for treatment, while the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination at the same hospital.

Police said an FIR has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway.
