Postal services in strife-torn Manipur seek assistance for delivery amid violence
Guwahati: Amid violence gripping Manipur, the Chief Postmaster General of the North East Postal Circle, Mariamma Thomas, along with her team, sought the assistance of central forces to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of parcels and mail in sensitive areas.
This appeal was made during a meeting with the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Wednesday.
Thomas and her team of 11 officials highlighted the challenges faced in transportation and delivering parcels/mail in the strife-ridden regions. They further added the essential role played by the postal department amidst the ongoing impasse that has plagued Manipur since May 3, 2023.
Amidst the turmoil, the delivery of parcels in sensitive areas necessitates support from the Assam Rifles and Central forces, as acknowledged by the postal officials.
Additionally, they highlighted their pivotal role in providing banking services to individuals seeking refuge in relief camps across the state.
Assuring her office's assistance, Governor Anusuiya Uikey pledged support for the smooth functioning of postal services and encouraged the postal department to continue their dedicated efforts for the welfare of the people.
