Nungshitombi Athokpam sworn in as Manipur’s first woman State Information Commissioner

Imphal: Nungshitombi Athokpam was sworn in as the State Information Commissioner of Manipur on Friday, with the swearing-in ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal, a communique from Raj Bhavan stated.

The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, administered the oath of office. Nungshitombi Athokpam is the first woman State Information Commissioner in the state.

The appointment was made in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 15 of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

The tenure and terms of service of Nungshitombi Athokpam will be in accordance with sub-section 16(1) of the Act.

She said her priorities would be to provide information required by citizens while maintaining administrative efficiency.

She emphasised that citizens should be well-informed to understand the decision-making process without affecting developmental activities.

She also assured that she will discharge her duties in the larger interest of the public.

The ceremony was attended by Th. Biswajit Singh, MLA; Chief Secretary; Security Advisor; Additional Chief Secretary; Advocate General; and other senior officers of the state government.
