Imphal: The Naga Women's Union (NWU) has urged the central and state governments to dismantle all unauthorized checkpoints, gates, and barriers on highways and roadways passing through Manipur.

The NWU's demand comes amid ongoing search operations and area domination by central and state security forces in Manipur's fringe and vulnerable areas.

While the administration has reported facilitating the movement of essential supplies through NH-37 and NH-2 in Mnaipur, the NWU asserts that these unauthorized checkpoints have created significant disruptions for the public, particularly commuters and motorists.

The union alleges that the construction of bunkers and placement of obstacles on roadsides have violated the rights of citizens, exposing them to harassment, extortion, and even threats from armed groups.

The NWU also expressed concern over the proximity of central and state forces to militant cadres, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution.

Calling for a swift end to hostilities, the NWU urged all parties involved to prioritize a peace process.

The union appealed to central and state forces to carry out their duties professionally and impartially to facilitate the early restoration of peace in the state.
