Manipur: Youth saved from militant recruitment, two cadres arrested

Imphal: Unearthing a major attempt by insurgents to misguide youth and lure them into joining outlawed groups, Manipur Police succeeded in preventing a young boy from being recruited into a militant organisation.

Police reported that the 18-year-old had been in contact with an underground outfit and was being enticed by the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup–Socialist Revolutionary Party (KYKL-SOREPA) for recruitment. The youth, identified as Thangjam Avinash Singh, also known as Amuba/Picktru (18), was arrested from the Porompat area in Imphal East district on Wednesday night. Police accused him of helping the outfit in recruiting new cadres. One mobile phone was seized from his possession.

In a separate operation against underground groups, security forces and state police arrested an active cadre of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak–Progressive (PREPAK-PRO). The accused, Laishram Amar Singh alias Amarjit (38) of Top Awang Leikai, Top Dusara, under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district, was apprehended from his residence. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.

Meanwhile, police reported issuing 19 challans to mot'[[or vehicle rule violators, amounting to Rs 31,000, and removed tinted films from five vehicles./
