Manipur violence: Two Arambai Tengol activists arrested in Imphal, weapons seized

Imphal: Manipur police apprehended two individuals at a hideout in Nambul Mapal, Paona Bazar, the heart of Imphal city.

The arrests were made following an operation that also led to the recovery of sophisticated weapons and a Maruti vehicle, officials announced on Thursday (July 11).

The individuals, identified as Kangabam Lenin Singh (43) and Toijam Shantikishore (50), are alleged activists of Arambai Tengol (AT), a prominent Meitei organisation in Manipur.

Both men are residents of Imphal West district in Manipur.

During the operation, police recovered the following items:

A case has been registered, and further investigation and legal action are underway.

In response to the arrests, authorities have implemented strict security measures across vulnerable locations.

Security convoys are being deployed along sensitive routes to ensure the safe movement of vehicles.

Additionally, 118 checkpoints have been established across various districts of Manipur, including both hill and valley regions.

Manipur police detained 85 individuals for various violations, though they were later released, officials noted.
