Manipur violence: Security forces seize arms cache in Churachandpur & Thoubal

IMPHAL: Central and state security forces, conducting joint operations with metal detectors, have successfully seized a cache of arms, explosives, and ammunition from two separate locations in the districts of Churachandpur and Thoubal in Manipur within the past 36 hours, according to officials.

In the fringe area of the hill district of Churachandpur in Manipur, the collaborative team discovered several warlike stores during their operation.

Meanwhile, in the vulnerable location within the jungle of Phouoibi village in the valley district of Thoubal in Manipur, the joint team initiated an operation based on intelligence inputs suggesting the presence of miscreants hoarding arms, ammunition, and explosive items.

The operations led to the recovery of various items in Churachandpur district of Manipur, including one M16 Rifle (Serial No. SER 15789) with Magazine, one 9mm Pistol with a magazine, two No 36 Mk1 Hand Grenades, two Chinese Heavy Explosive Hand Grenades, one Single Barrel, one Improvised Range Mortar, two Cartridges of 38mm anti-riot with rubber bullets from Amn AFK-Pune, one Tear Smoke Shell SARP, one Tear Smoke Shell (CS), one Tear Smoke Shell Soft, and one pair of combat dress and shoes.

In the Thoubal district of Manipur, the seized items comprised one INSAS Rifle, one modified 2-inch mortar, two hand grenades, one tube launcher, one tear smoke grenade, two tear smoke shells, one stun shell, one rubber bullet, one LMG magazine, and one modified mortar shell. These items were promptly handed over to the Nongpok Sekmai police.

Subsequently, the seized items were transferred to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The successful joint operations signify the commitment of security forces to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the populace in the region.
