Officials said that based on credible intelligence, the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles and in coordination with Manipur Police commandos, launched a swift cordon-and-search operation at a vulnerable location. The operation led to the arrest of an active UNLF-K member, identified as Malemnganba Ningombam, alias Yaikanba (22), a resident of Bashikhong Kongba Irong and currently staying at Keirao Bitra Awang Leikai under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district. A mobile phone was seized from him.

The UNLF-K is a separatist Meitei insurgent group seeking to establish a sovereign and socialist Manipur. The outfit was founded on November 24, 1964, five years after Manipur merged with the Indian Union in 1949.
