Manipur: Union Minister reviews Churachandpur District Administration on IDPs' condition via video conference
Imphal: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of the Churachandpur District Administration, particularly regarding the conditions of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), through a video conference held at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal. There are around 15,000 IDPs in 75 relief camps in the district.
The Minister assessed the overall progress of the district, with a particular focus on the condition of IDPs in relief camps and the implementation status of central and state-sponsored schemes.
He also reviewed key sectors such as health, education, power, agriculture, transport, handloom, and handicrafts, and enquired about the public’s issues and concerns regarding government services.
Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Dharun Kumar S., briefed the Minister on the district’s ongoing projects and programmes.
Authorities ensure IDPs receive essential facilities and are actively supporting their rehabilitation and livelihood to improve living conditions and well-being.
Highlighting the education scenario, the Deputy Commissioner said that with the presence of PM SHRI Schools, State government institutions, central institutions like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya, as well as several private schools, the district is performing well in higher secondary education.
Due to steps taken by the administration, the number of school dropouts has declined in recent years. However, he noted that access to higher education institutions continues to be a challenge for students, and initiatives under the PR scheme are being taken to bridge the gap.
In the health sector, Dharun Kumar said Churachandpur district has a medical college and is one of the best-performing districts in healthcare, despite challenges in super specialty and tertiary care.
Assuring continued cooperation from the Centre, Bandi urged the district administration to give renewed emphasis on agriculture and allied activities such as horticulture and animal husbandry to create sustainable income sources and strengthen the district’s self-reliance.
The Union Minister was on a three-day official visit to Manipur and left Imphal for the national capital on Wednesday.
