Manipur: "Underground" cadre with grenade nabbed by police in Thoubal

Guwahati: Following a tip-off about insurgent activity, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Thoubal district led to the arrest of a suspected underground cadre on Tuesday.

The official statement released on Wednesday confirmed the arrest and the recovery of a grenade.

The combined teams tactically established roadblocks on NH-102 apprehended a cadre of a valley-based underground outfit and recovered a grenade from him.

However, the identity of the arrested cadre has been withheld.

The operation was launched after arresting a cadre of the proscribed group Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) from Huikap area in Imphal East district in Huikap area in Imphal East district on Sunday.

During the operation, the combined team apprehended a cadre of SOREPA and recovered a 9mm pistol, three grenades, and ammunition. The individual along with the recovered arms cache have been handed over to Manipur Police for further action, the statement added.
