Manipur: Two PLA cadres arrested near Imphal airport

IMPHAL: Security Forces arrested two suspected cadres of the proscribed outfit People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) in West Imphal, Manipur on Wednesday.

A police statement said that acting on a tip that a few cadres of the outfit were extorting money from locals in the area, a joint operation was launched.

The joint team comprising of state and central forces raided a hideout located in Changangei Awang Leikai, near the Imphal airport under the Imphal West District.

The operation resulted in the arrests of two suspected activists of the outfit and the seizure of two mobile phones and one wallet.

The arrested persons were later identified as  Nongmeikapam Naoton Meitei alias Shanker (45) and Moirangthem Premananda Singh alias Loyangamba (50 ).

They were accused of being involved in extortion-related activities in and around Imphal, especially at the airport locations.

The arrested persons and seized items are now in police custody for legal proceedings, the police added.
