Manipur: Two KCP-N cadres held in Imphal ahead of I-Day
Imphal: Security forces have intensified their crackdown on insurgent groups in Manipur ahead of Independence Day.
In a significant development, two alleged members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party - Nongdrenkhomba (KCP-N) were arrested in Imphal city on Tuesday.
Joint teams of police and central security forces conducted a search operation in Paona Bazaar, where they apprehended Hirom Kisan Meitei alias Luckyson (22) and Waikhom Somenkumar Singh alias Dexter (22).
The duo is suspected to be involved in extortion activities targeting local businesses.
Police recovered two mobile phones, six extortion letters, and a two-wheeler from their possession. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the City police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the KCP-N has joined seven other insurgent groups in calling for a boycott of Independence Day in Manipur.
The outfits have issued a shutdown appeal and urged the public to refrain from participating in any Independence Day celebrations across the northeastern states.
As the state remains on high alert, security forces are conducting extensive operations in vulnerable areas to maintain peace and security during the Independence Day celebrations.
