Manipur: Two arrested in Imphal East with arms and ammunition
Imphal: Security forces arrested two individuals along with arms, ammunition, and telecommunication devices in separate raids conducted at different locations in Manipur's Imphal East district on Saturday, the police reported on Sunday.
Aribam Gunindro Sharma (30), a resident of Haotan Thangjam Khunou under Heingang Police Station, was captured from his residence during the first phase of the operation.
Authorities seized 13 rounds of ammunition of different calibers and three empty 12-bore cartridge cases from him.
In the second phase of the operation, the security forces arrested Rebanta Kshetrimayum (49), of Pangei Lairam Mapan under the same police station, from his residence.
A Pietro Beretta 9 mm pistol with magazine, 18 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, a holster, and a mobile phone were recovered from him.
The police reported that both arrestees were booked under the Arms Act of 1959, as amended by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and further legal proceedings are underway.
