Manipur: Smuggled timber worth Rs 4.88 crore seized
Imphal: Assam Rifles troops seized a significant amount of timber worth Rs 4.88 crore at the Manipur-Myanmar border.
Acting on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles conducted operations in the Kamjong district bordering Myanmar on March 19, 2024.
The focus of the operations was on locations suspected to be used for illegal timber transportation.

The successful operations resulted in the confiscation of a large quantity of dumped timber near Kangpat Centre and Kangpat Khunou villages.
Officials also apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in the transportation of the illegal timber.

The seized timber, estimated at 50,603 cubic feet (CFT), is believed to have originated in Myanmar and was likely destined for the black market.
The confiscated goods have been handed over to the Forest Beat Officer of Kamjong District for further investigation and legal action.
